The project includes design and construction of a new 110’x 1200’ lock to be located landward of the existing 110’x 600’ lock
The existing navigation lock is too small to meet current and future traffic demands without significant delays

The Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project is located at Tennessee River Mile 471 in Chattanooga, Tennessee
Authorized in the Energy and Water Appropriations Act of 2003 and reauthorized in America’s Infrastructure Act of 2018
The project includes design and construction of a replacement 110-foot by 600-foot navigation lock to be located downstream of the dam and riverward of the existing lock
A new lock is required at Chickamauga Dam because of structural deficiencies of the existing lock resulting from physical expansion of the concrete structure
Total Project Cost Estimate is $954,396,000 as certified March 16, 2023
$406M Expended thru February 2023 = 43% completed
Estimated to be operational November 2026-completion September 2028
Wilson Lock upstream floating guide wall repair/replacement is located at Tennessee River mile 259.4 in Florence, Alabama
Wilson’s 110’ x 600’ main chamber went into service in November 1959

In August of 2021, remnants of Hurricane Ida contributed to the sinking of the upstream floating guide wall in seventy-five feet of water resulting in protracted delays and inflated costs to the Valley economy
Army Corps lacks the authority to make repairs at TVA-owned facilities
TVA is unable to fund replacement and will provide $12-15 million for a temporary stop-gap fix
Current estimate to fund replacement is $85 million
